Today I was talking to my sister about paint. Do you paint, not paint, leave it natural, go neutral or be bold.... Actually paint is where I do take a bit of risk. It's fairly cheap, I like change and I like to paint. So why not?
In our family room we painted our fireplace brick white and our wall black, just one mind you. Here are a few pics we had promised my family about a year ago, though it took about that long to decorate, I'm slow...

This room we obviously wanted black, white and bright, I should rephrase, I wanted and Heath was sweet to oblige (or not get in my way ;) He says he likes it, but do guys care much, I don't know. These curtains were my first sewing project. I'm glad you can't examine them too closely.
We made this magnetic chalkboard, light on the magnetic despite the six coats of magnetic paint, which the girls love. Just realized I didn't erase that very visible message. The other day a friend broke in and left Heath a threatening note, not the girls just in case you thought them little geniuses and MT Dew addicts. I did recently find Saydee with her little chair on top of another chair trying to write on the very top. Should have saw that coming. Also the black chalkboard next to the black wall, to little ones means everything is a chalkboard. Luckily it wipes off easy.

So other than this ginormous couch taking up all the space, snug up against the fireplace and still blocking our vent, it works for us.

I only found one before shot.
We spraypainted the gold face with heat resistant black paint and then painted the brick.
I won't go into detail but it was a pain. But it made a big difference. The room is actually quite light what with all the white paint and big windows. We like it. That being said it's been over a year and I'm envisioning a light blue , maybe even a beautiful wallpaper on that black wall. I hope Heath doesn't read this for a while. He's not ready :)
And while this room is filled with high contrasts, the rest of our home is a neutral beige, go figure.

Heidi! It's gorgeous! I love how everything came together!
(And that magnetic paint--been there. Even with my strongest magnets, it barely holds up a piece of paper.)
